I just received a shiny new Maxtor 4380E to install into my RT model 125. I ordered the disk with the short index pulse option. The problem comes when I try to install the disk. I'm running AIX 2.2 and I know that I have to format the disk under the VMF to create the configuration record. I have set the disk to DS 2 and I have pulled the terminating resistors (the disk goes into slot E). Here's the problem: When I boot the VRM install disk (which contains the VMF), the LEDs cycle through the numbers and get stuck at 35. If I change the DS jumper (to 1 for example), then the VRM loads but says it can't find the disk. Same sort of problems if I install the Maxtor as drive C with no other drives in the system. What am I missing? If anyone has successfully installed a Maxtor 4380E under AIX 2.2 in an RT model 125 please mail me a description of what you did to install the disk.
