I got this in interoffice routing, but I don't know the source. If any- one has info, thinks this is interesting/good/bad/whatever, send mail. I'm just the messenger. Industry Awaits New AT&T. What could be the top challenger to the IBM PC may be released as early as January 30 by AT&T. The PC 7300 filed with the FCC in November will be announced on that date according to industry sources. Since the filing, observers have been buzzing over what capabilities the code-named ``Safari 4'' micro will have. The system is expected to have 512 Kb of RAM, expandable to 2 Mb, and a 10 Mb hard disk with 500 Kb diskette. The new unit is expected to be priced between $4,000 and $5,000 which is lower than the IBM PC AT. Safari 4 will offer inte- grated voiced functions, and has a built-in MODEM and two separate phone lines--one for voice and one for data--that can be used simulta- neously. The dual-processor will feature windowing, and run UNIX* with MS-DOS** as an option. ---- *UNIX is a trademark of Bell Labs. Everyone knows that. That's good. **MS-DOS is a trademark of Microsoft Software. Everyone knows that, too. But it's a shame that it's on the market.
