Help! I'm would like to know if there is a way to send mail
to my father who works for IBM overseas and has access
to IBM's internal "profs" network.
Is this network entirely self contained or is there a
special address one can use to mail to it.
Any help is appreciated! Please respond directly to me
as i don't usually read this newsgroup. Thanx Gaby

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone out there knows about the IBM "profs"

internal system, and how I can send messages (if possible)

to my father who works oversses for IBM.

    Any help would be appreciated...

    Thanks in advance.

The only way that I know that this can be done is if initiated
by your father. He would have to request a Inter-Enterprise Connection
which would mean he would have to find a machine that is an internet
gateway that would allow him to send and receive mail to and from your
machine.

If the only purpose for this is to get personal messages I doubt it can
be arranged (he would be asking for permission to use IBM resources
for personal purposes). If there is some sort of justification for using
IBM resources then have your father contact me (WEBB@AUSVM6) and I'll try
to get the information he needs.

I think that your best bet would be to look into the comercial services
(e.g. Prodigy) that offer this sort of thing. If they are not available
where your father is then you may be out of luck.

Bill mentioned the Inter-Enterprise System Connection. There actually
is an easier way. IBM Information Network operates a gateway from VNET to the
Internet (VNET is what most people call PROFS, although that's somewhat akin
to calling mailx/mail/elm/whatever the Internet). Your father should be able
to register with IIN, either using EFAS, or by getting a form called
"INTERNET REGISTER" (electronically) and submitting it to his manager (unless
he is a manager, in which case he can submit it directly). If he can't find
that form, have him send me a note (DEJARNET@AUSVMQ) and I'll mail it to him.
Please, don't everyone that has friends/relatives/whatever in IBM send me notes.
I write device drivers, I don't provide IIN support. :-)

Once he completes the form, he should have an address something like:

	hisid@hisnode.iinus.ibm.com

	Hope that helps....
