[comp.sys.ibm.pc.rt] connecting modem to an RT

mitzel@jerico.usc.edu (Danny Mitzel) (05/10/91)

greetings, i was wondering if anyone might be able to pass along some
info on configuring my RT/modem. the RT is a 6150 running AOS4.3,
and the modem is an US Robotics Dual Standard. currently i'm only
interested in using the modem for remote login and file transfer (no
uucp).

1. my machine has the 2 planer serial ports, an async (4 port) card,
and a serial/parallel card. is there any restriction on which
port(s) i can connect to? if i connect to psp or asy what type of
connector do i need for the RT side?

2. do i need to make any modifications to system files (/etc/ttys, ..)?

3. recommendations on communications packages for modem comtrol,
terminal emulation/remote login, file transfer?

4. while i am trying to modify/check the configuration of the modem i
would like to be able to read/write directly to the associated tty.
is there a way to do this?

any responses are greatly appreciated.

thanks,
danny (mitzel@usc.edu)
