[net.micro] acoustic modems?

seifert@mako.UUCP (Snoopy) (02/22/85)

This seems to be the group for modem stuff, so...

Tek is running a bizzare non-standard phone system that I can't
hook a "normal" modem to, I have to use the old acoustic coupler type.
Does anyone still make these things? 1200 baud? Auto-answer?
Auto-dial would be nice, but not required. This would be used primarily
to allow my group to dial into our 6130 when the vaxen are down.
(currently we can dial into the vax, and do a remote login to the
6130 over the ethernet, but the vaxen have been down a lot lately...)

The other option would be to get a real phone line installed.
This would be, er, "non-trivial".

This probably isn't of interest to most of the net, so MAIL those
responses to:

you know you've been spending too much time on the computer when
your friend misdates a check, and you suggest adding a "++" to fix it.
