[net.micro] Squeezing Blood from Z-D's Stone

jay@hp-pcd.UUCP (jay) (02/14/85)

Has anyone had any luck getting a refund from Ziff-Davis?

I had a three year subscription to the now-defunct MicroSystems
magazine and still had 21 months remaining when Ziff-Davis axed
it. They started sending me, without prior notice, of all
things, PC Tech Journal. This might be allright to some, but I
have no interest in PCs or their clones. A letter to Z-D
requesting a refund brought only another issue of PCTJ. Does
anyone have ideas on how to deal with this?

I sent a request for refund to Ziff-Davis within a week of their notice
to me that Microsystems was folding. Several weeks later I received a
postcard telling me that a full refund (~$30 - ~1.5 years) would arrive
in "6-8 weeks". I just receieved the full refund yesterday.

So - try sending a letter to the person whose name was on the original
notification (if you can find it!). Or try the Z-D Vice-President,
Circulation, as listed in Microsystems.

Try writing to the following people at ZD for refund or complaints that
haven't been answered elsewhere. I did this once, and got a very quick
reply.

Mr. William Ziff, Chairman of the Board

Mr. Kenneth Koppel, President of Computer Publications Division

You need to write to the folks at PCTj for your refund. I got a letter
on Dec 12Th telling me that my subscription had been converted to
PCTj and if I replied before Nov 15th I could get a full refund. (No
phone # was provided) I sent off a scathing letter, something about
how even African Aborigines new the difference between S100/CPM and
Orwellien(sp?) Blueness. Which apparently got to them some time in january.
By which time they had already shipped the Feb issue (My subscription to
MS ran out in Feb) so I wouldn't be getting a refund. They did get the
point though.

Note: Ziff-Davis will be at the 10th West Coast Computer Faire. Please stop
by and mention that you didn't appreciate their actions.
