Can you please tell me how to use FTP to get RFC's from the NIC? Thanks. Graham Oberem ------

Use the FTP client of your choice, and connect to sri-nic.arpa. Login as "anonymous", give your real user id as the password. Use whatever your FTP calls "change foreign directory" to move to the directory "rfc:" (on unix, this would be "cd rfc:"). Use "dir" to browse, "get" (in ascii mode) to fetch. Have fun. sri-nic-arpa is either 10.0.0.51, or 26.0.0.73, if you don't have domain name support. James VanBokkelen FTP Software Inc.

Easier than using FTP is using mail... Send mail to service@sri-nic.arpa with the Subject: field identifying what you want. (You'll have to add a pro forma message for some mailers, but this is ignored). The following are examples of requests: Subject: get rfc:rfc-index.txt Retrieves the RFC index. Subject: RFC nnnn Retrieves RFC nnnn Subject: get ietf:ideas-index.txt Retrieves the index of Internet task force "ideas" (often precursors to RFCs). Note that the "service" server may break up a large block of text into multiple mail messages. (The RFC index is three messages itself.) Geoff
