[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] ps/2 tcp/ip problems

ANH@DGAIPP1S.BITNET (anton hackl) (07/01/88)

I HAVE SOME PROBLEMS DOING 3270-EMULATION ON A PS/2-60:
HAVING INSTALLED A TCP/IP BETA-VERSION FROM 3COM ON THE PS/2,
I GET CONNECTED VIA TELNET TO AN IBM-HOST 3090 RUNNING SPARTACUS
TCP/IP (KNET 2.6.0). THIS KNET SOFTWARE HAS AN INBUILT
3270-EMULATOR WITH A NUMBER OF SUPPORTED TERMINAL TYPES E.G.
VT100, H19, ... BEING CONNECTED TO THE IBM, THE FULL SCREEN
MODE WORKS FINE, BUT THE CURSOR KEYS ON THE PS/2-KEYBOARD
DO NOT WORK: INSTEAD OF MOVING THE CURSOR THEY GENERATE
THE STANDARD ASCII CONTROL SEQUENCE (E.G. <ESC><LEFT BRACKET>#A
FOR CURSOR UP).
HINT: THE EMULATION INCLUDING THE CURSOR KEYS OPERATE WELL
WITHIN AN UNIX-SYSTEM (BSD4.3) IF I TYPE IN THE COMMAND
STTY -CTLECHO (LITERAL ECHO OF CONTROL CHARS).

HAS ANYONE OUT THERE A HINT FOR ME OR IS THERE A TCP-VERSION
FOR THE PS/2 WHICH DOES ITS OWN 3270-EMULATION?
THANKS IN ADVANCE

PLEASE WRITE DIRECTLY TO ME, BECAUSE I AM NOT ON THE LIST

I have had a lot of experience (and problems) getting TELNET to work
properly into a VM TCP/IP environment. Your best bet is to get a
TN3270 emulator instead of a VT100 emulator when using the IBM. FTP
System's TN3270 works very well with the Fibronics KNET software.
It is REALLY FAST and of course running in block mode does not generate
all those 64 byte packets containing 1 byte of user data when your
typing in input mode. You will also experience problems in the VT100
emulator when you 'hyperwrap the cursor' and when you are in insert
mode and the LAN is fairly heavily loaded.
