[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] Unique Address

CNV38@BNR.CA (Mike Hui, M.H.) (01/31/89)

Thanks to all who took the time to inform me that ARPing oneself
is the mechanism to ensure unique IP address on same LAN.

This certainly sounds a good solution to the specific case of
IP on the same LAN. I suppose the general solution to ensure
unique address in non-IP environment over multiple LANs haven't
been solved yet.
