[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] 'Graphics' telnet

alexew@watdcsu.waterloo.edu (A.E.Wielhouwer - Computing Services) (02/10/89)

I have a user trying to use a graphical application on a Sun 4
workstation accessed through telnet (PC-NFS version). This application
(MAPLE) supports character graphics at the lowest level (what she is seeing),
REGIS, Tek40xx, and Postscript.

Is anyone aware of any telnet implementations supporting REGIS (I believe
this is what the VT240 uses, but I could be wrong) or Tek4010 emulation.

I realize that Kermit over serial lines would work, but there are no
serial connections.

AdvThanksance,

Alex E. Wielhouwer, P.Eng.,
Department of Computing Services,
University of Waterloo, etc, etc, etc.

I didn't claim anything, so why should I dis-claim it?

Alex,
Wollongong's WIN/TCP for DOS, release 4.0, supports 3rd party terminal
emulators (e.g. Reflections 2 w/Tek40xx and VT220 support from Walker,
Richer, & Quinn, Inc.).

You might still be able to use Kermit for Graphics Emulation with
their Tek emulation. 3Com, (formerly Bridge) sells a card
(Bridge Ilana) that has a telnet that supports INT14.

I have used this Kermit/telnet combination for VT100, assume it
would work for tek4010. I do not think there is a PC/NFS driver
for the card though. (I would love to be proven wrong on this
point)

There are probably other telnets out there that support INT14, incl
Ungerman Bass.

Good Luck,

NCSA Telnet supports Tektronix 4014 terminal emulation and VT102 emulation.

InterCon Systems sells a package with Tek 4014 AND REGIS VT240 emulation
...but it only works on a Mac.

     Alex,

I believe that NCSA telnet version 2.2c available by anonymous
FTP from omnigate.clarkson.edu would provide the functions you requested.
It has both vt102 and TEK 4010 and 4014 emulation. You can also capture
or print hp or postscipt printer commands. The version at omnigate is
supplied with the FTP packet driver's.

The NCSA public-domain TCP/IP has a 4010 emulation in its Telnet.

Our PC/TCP has a telnet that does all of its I/O via DOS calls, so it can
be used with .SYS files that do emulation for the CON device (like ANSI.SYS).
There are several Tek emulators which work that way, I don't know of any
.SYS files which do VT240.

Beame & Whiteside, of Fiddler's Green, Ont. do a telnet which works with
any terminal emulator which can be told to use the BIOS serial line interrupt
(14h). Use the VT240 or Tek emulator of your choice.

TWG has already replied about their (presumably Int 14-based) telnet.
