[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] PC Network Software : PC NFS or Novell?

Do you have experience with Novell of PC NFS? If you do, please read on...

I need some help with a networking software decision and I hope this
group can help.

The group I work for develops 'C' on PC AT's in standalone configuration.
We develop 8086 rom code so the decision seemed logical five years ago when
the present configuration was set up. We have a central machine which runs
Polytron as a Librarian and uses Polymake to build versions of code from the
archives.

A new group has been added recently who perform similar tasks to our group
and use Vaxes for their development. We will have to work closely with them
and share mail, files and development discussions. Other groups in the
company which we interface with infrequently (perhaps too infrequently)
use Suns and other Unix machines to develop software.

A study group was formed to study overall conectivity issues.
The result of that study group was to wire with ethernet and bridge each
department to each other for fault and traffic isolation.

So we are going to get an ethernet and 386 file server. The outstanding
issue is what networking software we should use. We are considering PC NFS
and Novell. I think that if we want to communicate with the other groups
locally, we need NFS. But other people in the group don't want to stray
too far from IBM so they are crying for Novell. In our situation, which
would be a better solution and why?

Any help, reasoning, personal experince or other would be appreciated.

If you would like a summary of the information gathered, please email and
ask and I'll email you the summary.
