I have a question I would like to post for some information.
We are possibly headed for some trouble in the very near future.
We are about to implement TCP/IP here on our campus. The problem
comes from the fact that there was no direction when it came time
to buy the NIU's for the workstations.
We are considering Clarkson's version of NCSA, simply due to the
fact that we need TN 3270. The spec's on this version say that
there are drivers available for 3Com 3C501's, but not the 3C503.
Are drivers for this card available? If not will they be available
soon?
Also some departments on campus have bought Univation NIU's. Is
a special driver needed for this card, or does it look like a 3Com
or Western Digital card?
Thanks in advance for any information.

The Univation NC-516 doesn't look at all like either the 3Com or W-D cards. It uses a shared-memory 82586. However, the Packet Driver spec comes to your rescue. Univation was the first commercial vendor to support the spec, and your users should have drivers that came with the cards. I don't know if NCSA will work with it (it is a fairly old implementation), but it is worth a try. I know our stuff does. jbvb (sigh - another sale lost...)

I need a implementaion of tcp/ip for pc that support the 3c503
(etherlink II). I have the IBM version which i hear does not support
this card. If there are public domain implementations or pay for
implementaions i would be curious about where to get them.

Bridge/3Com's PCS/TCP for DOS supports the 3C503. Sun PC/NFS supports the 3C503. FTP's PC/TCP supports the 3C503. I think TWG's WIN/PC supports the 3C503. I don't know about Beame & Whiteside, or NRC (if anyone is listening from either company, send me literature...). In addition, Russ Nelson at Clarkson has recently been given a Packet Driver for the 3C503, so Packet Driver versions of PC/TCP, WIN/PC (when available), PC-IP, KA9Q and NCSA could be used as well.
