We are trying to run NFS and some frontends of UNIX programs
(e.g. PC-ALIS, PC-Oracle) on a PC connected via Ethernet.
I am not sure if this is possible with only one Ethernet board
and TCP/IP package.
To choose a board and TCP/IP software, I need answers to the following
questions:
1. What boards does NFS support now and in the future?
2. What boards and what TCP/IP software needs PC-ALIS?
Could I run PC-ALIS on top of NFS?
3. Same as 2. for PC-Oracle.

Depends on what the frontend vendor has done in terms of TCP/IP support on
DOS. Oracle has a version for Excelan's TCP/IP libraries and board. They
may already be shipping one for our PC/TCP libraries, which will run on any
interface we support. I don't think they have one for Sun's PC/NFS libraries,
but I don't know for sure (ask an Oracle salesperson). I don't know much
about PC-ALIS, but I'm pretty sure they haven't talked to FTP Software.
To choose a board and TCP/IP software, I need answers to the following
questions:
1. What boards does NFS support now and in the future?
FTP Software's NFS will support W-D, InterLAN, 3Com, BICC, Novell Ethernet
card & its clones, Proteon, IBM & other 802.5 cards, SLIP, and any Ethernet
card that has a Packet Driver for it (Schenider & Koch, TCL, many others).
PC/NFS is available from Sun for at least SLIP and the 3Com 3C503. Drivers
for other boards are available from the board vendors (BICC, InterLAN,
W-D and probably others). Geoff?
I don't know what drivers are available for the Beame & Whiteside NFS. Carl?
Ask Excelan if they have an NFS for their board (I seem to recall an
announcement a while back), and if it will work with the Oracle port.
2. What boards and what TCP/IP software needs PC-ALIS?
Could I run PC-ALIS on top of NFS?
If the supplier of PC-ALIS did a version which called one of the vendor's
TCP/IP libraries, yes. Ask one of their salespeople.
3. Same as 2. for PC-Oracle.
See above.

Sounds like it's time for another round of the Pc/Ip Scorecard. The last one I have on file is revision 5: 05/25/88, which is obviously out of date. Is Hank Nussbacher still handling it, or should someone else do the honours?
