Hello PC-NFS Users, at our company, we could solve a big problem concerning PC-NFS we had until now. PC-NFS uses at least 80kB of the DOS - memory, hence we couldn't use it with our most important CAD PCB routing software and our schematic design package, which both do not dynamically allocate memory, but MUST have 540kB of free DOS RAM. This problem is solved now, at least on 386 machines (we are using only 386- AT for CAD anyway) !!! We installed the '386max Professional' memory manager from Qualitas Inc. (Mary- land), which is now in Version 4.04 not only able to relocate memory, to re- organize extended and expanded RAM etc., but also to load standard DOS device drivers into RAM over 640k. Thus we were able to load the modules PCNFS.SYS and SOCKDRV.SYS into 'High DOS RAM', and we have 580kB DOS RAM free !!! I only can recommend this package, we used version 2, which was not able to load DOS drivers, since months, and it worked without problems. I think the new version is a MUST together with PC-NFS. The WD8003.SYS, we are using, must stay in low memory, at least I could not get it work in high DOS RAM, but its size is only a few kBytes. For GERMAN users of PC-NFS: you can buy '386max Professional' (you need the professional version) from Albrecht Software, Muenchen (333.- DM).
