[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] Boot proms on the 5210 boards

eddie@CC.MSSTATE.EDU (Eddie Mikell) (06/13/89)

We have purchased some boot proms from micon interlan, oh, excuse me, RACAL
interlan in order to boot the pc's from a Novell server.

I was wondering if someone could provide some direction, since I can't get
an answer from Interlan. According to the PROM installation manual provided
with the PROM, it suggest the following settings to for the board when using
Netware 2.1

IRQ - 5, I/O BASE Address - 330, Memory Base - DC000.

which does not work (server responds with unable to load boot image).

But, on page 9-15 of the Supervisor's guide, the book states to use option
number 0 for booting a remote file which is IRQ - 2, I/O BASE - 360,
Memory Base - c0000, which certainly doesn't work.

Anyone have settings which will work?

Also, has anyone else having
problems with interlan's new customer service policy. Seems since they
have changed hands, they will not answer question over the phone any more.

It has been a pain in the neck (and lower) trying to deal with these people.
I am not allowed to speak to a tech without a tracking number. When I call
my distributor for a tracking number, I am given one which does not exist,
so when I call interlan back, a very rude operator tells me to get lost, and
quite trying to obtain fraudulant service!

I suspect this new policy change will serious hamper any intentions to
buy 5210 boards in the future.
