[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] RARP for FTP's PC-IP software

lim@ins.cwru.EDU (Hock Koon Lim) (08/08/89)

I have a copy of FTP PC-IP software for AT&T NAU and would like to use rarp
to set the ip address. In the command reference manul(pg 18), one of the option for ifconfig is ""
which "specifies that the Internet address should be cleared. This may be useful for hosts using
a remote bootstrap facility, such as bootp". I follow this configuration but the pc did not do the rarp or
broadcast any rarp request at all. I call the tech support but what I get is we did not support this
function. This function is very important for my application, is anyone out there have any way to
configurate the pc to use the rarp function? I would like to hear your solution.

Thanks,

RARP is a relatively limited protocol, since it requires raw-packet access
on the server and can't go through IP routers. We prefer BOOTP, and we will
be shipping a BOOTP.EXE (compatible with the RFC 1048 extensions) in 2.04,
due out next month.
