[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] problem with PC/TCP's setclock

k2@charly.bl.physik.tu-muenchen.de (Klaus Steinberger) (09/26/89)

We use the setclock programm from PC/TCP (FTP Inc.) to set
the clock of our PC's to the date/time of our ntp server.

The problem we have is that setclock has not the correct algolrithm
for daylight saving in central europe. We here in Germany (and all
other in central europe) change the daylight saving at the last sunday
in march and the last sunday in september.

Because setclock doesn't know about this, we must change the
tzname in the configuration at every daylight change. This is
very frustrating if you have many pc's!

Any suggestions how we can patch it? We run FTP's Version 2.03.

With regards,
Klaus Steinberger

The issue of understanding all the world's timezones is pretty complicated.
As it is, we have had to change code in the program recently to deal with
the US's own changes to the daylight savings time law, and I'm not sure
how well we'd do tracking changes elsewhere. Do you think the problem is
straightforward enough that we can solve it for you without annoying others?
If so, send me mail describing what you want done (if it's timezone-name
specific, it would be really good if all of Europe used the same abbreviation
for that timezone) and I'll see what I can do.
