[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] text filter for MS-WORD

gfb@wsc-sun (Gareth Beale) (10/21/89)

At our site we are planning to install Sun's PCNFS on several PC's used
by secretarial staff. The file server is a Sun 3/280 running SunOS 3.5,
shortly to be upgraded to 4.0.

One of the reasons for using PCNFS is so that users on the Sun can generate
documents (using the vi editor) which can then be picked up by the PC's,
and processed, using Microsoft WORD. I believe MS-W can handle a number
of input formats, including plain ASCII. However, perhaps some filtering
is necessary, for example removing CR's that may be at the end of every
line of the vi-generated file. This alone is fairly trivial, but it occours
to me that perhaps there already exists a filter to prepare an ASCII file
generated by a UNIX editor for use by MS-W. Anybody know of one?

Any information will be much appreciated. Please email direct as I do
not currently subscribe to this list.

Thanks.
