I have PC/IP (from Harvard) up and running on my PC and it works great ! However, when I run netwatch, all addresses that are displayed are displayed in IP numbers format. We do not have any name servers since we are not on the Internet. This is OK but it would be really nice if there is some kind of host resolution conversion. Is there some kind of program I can run on my UNIX machine to perform some minimum set of lookup service ? I heard that someone has in fact written a server on a UNIX machine to do exactly that. If you have any suggestions, please do let me know. Thanks in advance ! -rc Ran-Chi Huang BELL: (408) 473-2596 Wyse Technology M/S 302 DOMAIN: rc@wyse.com OR postmaster@wyse.com 3471, N. PC/IP supports the IEN 116 name server protocol and the Domain Name System (DNS) protocol. These days most UNIX systems ought to support DNS. However...Netwatch doesn't try to do any name translations. It will show you the IP addresses because that's all it can do; it doesn't have a usable protocol stack inside it and therefore can't translate IP addresses into hostnames. Some commercial versions of Netwatch, like FTP Software's LANWatch, can. - john romkey USENET/UUCP: romkey@asylum.sf.ca.us Internet: romkey@ftp.com "Some people walk on water/Some people walk on broken glass/Some people walk round and round in their dreams/Some just keep falling down."
