[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] PCNFS and TN3270 using packet driver

brian@THUMPER.CC.WAYNE.EDU (Brian_Holmes) (01/08/90)

I got PCNFS to work with the packet driver, but TN3270
won't run using the packet driver now. TN3270 says
it got an error #10 and that the packet driver probably
wasn't installed. PCNFS is running fine on it. Has
anyone run TN3270 under PCNFS using packet drivers?
Did you have to append any commands to PCNFS.SYS?
TN3270 works fine with the packet driver when I don't
load PCNFS. Any ideas?

PC-NFS and the NCSA TN3270 both want to use Ethernet packet types 0x800 (IP)
and 0x806 (ARP). The Packet Driver can't deliver packets to both, and you'd
get arguments between the two ARP implementations if it did. To do this,
you need either a TN3270 modified to use Sun's socket library and TCP
transport, or PC/TCP's Interdrive and TN3270, which already share a common
transport kernel.

Unfortunately, they are both asking the packet driver for the
same (IP and ARP) packets. You need for SUN to release a
TN3270 option for their kernel (or buy a new product which
supports both NFS and TN3270). FTP software supports both,
as does Beame, we support TN3270 with NFS out soon.

Clarkson University is currently porting their version of TN3270 to PC-NFS.

It will be done RSN. Just a few minor bugs to work out.
