[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] Novell and PC-NFS

GEustace@massey.ac.nz (Glen Eustace) (02/14/90)

We have a fairly large local area network supporting PCs, about 250 so
far. These PCs run the Sun Microsystems PC-NFS product and are servered
from several Unix machines, a Pyramid, a Sun386i and 4 DECStation 3100s.

One of our departments wants to put in there own departmental LAN and
they want to go with Novell, but they don't want to lose access to the
services we provide on the Campus Network.

1. Is there any kind of bridge/protocol converter or whatever that would
allow a machine in there network accessing disks in ours and vice versa?

2. Could they run TCP/IP based applications in their environment and talk to
machines in ours such as Telnet or FTP?

3. Are there any Novell servers that run on Unix machines, if so which ones?

Any help or opinions would be most welcome,
Thanks.

Well, they could always run both Novell and PC-NFS :-) This is not [yet]
an officially-supported configuration, Glen, but a countryman of
yours has made it all work using the packet driver interface: (Andrew, I
hope you don't mind me quoting you):
