This is version 5a.x of packet drivers. Compared to the official ver 5.x
from Clarkson, the following has been changed:
o New code introduced (unfortunately by me) in ver 5 of TAIL.ASM could not
always recognize an old XT as such, thought it was a microchannel AT due
to wrong answer from Bios. The result was a hang when run on some old PCs.
Probably all drivers suffered from this error. Code rewritten.
Packet drivers for all cards recompiled. Only WD8003E tested.
o The following changes only concerns the WD8003E packet driver.
- Support for the new WD8003E/A microchannel card (surface mounted ICs).
- A new mem_base default (new WD diskettes have D000 as default).
- A new available address test that checks for ROM or RAM instead of
checking for a FF response from the bus. This should fix all cases
where a false "suggested memory already occupied" was given.
These changes will be incorporated in the next release of packet drivers
from Clarkson, the 6.x version, probably released in the beginning of April.
Until then you can use my temporary 5a version. Due to technical reasons,
these drivers will identify themselves as version 0.x (sure must be a
temporary version :-).
You can get the new packet drivers by anonymous FTP to Pollux.lu.se
(130.235.132.89), catalog /pub/network/pktdrive, file driv5a.zip.
Don't forget binary mode.
If you have no unziper, also get file /pub/pkz102.exe, which is a
selfunpacking program that contains pkunzip.
