[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] Packet driver vs. Novell with MCA ethernet adapters

mab@j.cc.purdue.edu (Mike Brown) (03/09/90)

We're currently determining system and network configurations for
several microcomputer-based instructional labs to be installed on
campus this summer. The labs will likely house a combination of Macs
and IBM or compatible PCs, connected to network servers and to the
campus backbone (and internet) via ethernet adapters.

In several of our already operational PC labs, we run Novell Advanced
Netware 2.xx networks with IBM PC/AT or AT compatible workstations.
The workstations use 3Com 3C501 ethernet adapters, packet drivers, and
the BYU-modified IPX. The network cable is connected to the campus
backbone, allowing workstation users to access the internet via NCSA
Telnet or other apps that have packet driver interfaces.

Has anyone in net.land tried doing this with MCA ethernet adapters? I
have the packet driver collection, but don't (yet) have access to any
MCA adapters that have drivers therein. I'd appreciate any comments,
positive or negative, re experiences you've had with this
configuration.
