[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] Using TELNET in a VAX/VMS IBM 386 network environment

SRCHBGM@cmv.dsir.govt.nz (03/21/90)

Hi,
We have a fast IBM 386 file server running the MICOM interlan
TCP/IP attached via ethernet to our VAX/VMS network running CMU-TEK TCP/IP.
We are able to sit at our PC terminals and access the VAX network using
TELNET. We can transfer files to and from the VAX network. However I
would like to be able to access the PC network using TELNET from the VAX
computer network.

This is the error message I get. I know that it can see the network but it is
not allowed to attach to it ...

$ telnet dsir6
%TELNET-I-TRYING, Trying to connect to DSIR6
%TELNET-W-NO_OPEN, Can't open connection to DSIR6
-IPACP-E-CREF, Connection refused by remote host
%TELNET-W-NO_OPEN, Can't open connection to !AS
$

Can anyone out there help?

Also... on the VAX side in a FTP session....files can be transferred to and from
the PC network. A command I would like to issue from the VAX end under FTP is

FTP> show file_status filename.dat

But I get an error message which says ... command not implemented.
I get the same error message when going between VAXes. The documentation gives
an example of the command working ... any thoughts?
