[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] NCSA Telnet on a 3c503

frankh@durin.sparta.COM (Frank Halsema) (03/24/90)

I am trying to set up the 3c503 driver for NCSA telnet. I can get it to work
if I set up the board for shared memory and use thin net. Unfortunately, I
have a thick net cable plant and I need to support PCNFS on this machine.
PCNFS doesn't seem to work if the 3c503 is set up for shared memory. Nothing
in the manuals discuss using the shared memory options on the board.

What I am looking for is one of the following solutions:

    1) run NCSA telnet on the 3c503 with thick net and shared memory
        disabled
    2) run NCSA telnet on the 3c503 with thick net and set up PCNFS to
run with shared memory at DC000

You may wonder why I am using NCSA Telnet and PCNFS. The PCNFS is what the
staff normally uses. NCSA Telnet is needed to support the development of a
UNIX Librarian product. If I can't fix my problem by reconfiguring the
software, I will have to set up a system just for product testing or
reconfigure the PCNFS system every time I want to test. These are not nice
solutions.

Thanks for the help!!
