Hi, I just got an Excelan Exos 205 ethernet card for a really good deal, but now I'm not sure how to program it. This is a 'smart' ethernet card with an onboard 80186 and 256K of memory. The card came with diagnostics and installation software as well as a Netbios and TCP/IP driver. However, the manuals really don't say anything about how to use this software (except the obvious 'compatible with Netbios' stuff, that is). I would like to use this card in a TCP/IP environment, so my question is if anyone knows how to run TCP/IP applications over this card. Specifically, I'd like to get NCSA Telnet running if possible. My problem is that I can run the supplied TCP/IP (and even Netbios) code, but I'm not sure how to interface to the code. If anyone knows anything about the technical aspects of this card, I'd very much appreciate it. Actually, I do know a bit about the setup since I've seen a similar Excelan 'smart' controller in a Masscomp computer. In both cases, the onboard CPU is downloaded with what appears to be 4.2BSD networking code (everything from the socket code down to the interface code). The host processor communicates with the onboard 80186 via shared memory, but I'm not sure what kind of protocol this follows. I've done a lot with TCP/IP code but I haven't a clue what Netbios is. Anyway, I would really appreciate any information you may have on both programming the resident 80186 as well as interfacing to the Exos 8051 TCP/IP code. Thanks for the help. - Jim Liu jtliu@phoenix.princeton.edu
