[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] Second public beta release of the Clarkson packet drivers

nelson@IMAGE.SOE.CLARKSON.EDU (Russ Nelson) (04/11/90)

The second public beta test of release 6.x of the Clarkson packet
drivers is ready. The following drivers have changed from the first
beta test: 3c503 (no longer hangs), 3c505 (no longer hangs), 3c523
(should be able to find its memory now). The wd8003e, 3c503, and ne2000
have Carl Beame's buffer overflow fix installed. All drivers should now
have the "interrupt greater than 7" problem fixed.

As far as I know, the AT&T driver doesn't work on the StarLAN 1 NAU. I
have also have one report of failure with the ni6510, and no reports of
success besides my own.

In spite of those two problems, I am going to release the drivers if no
one reports any other problems.

I must insist upon three things if you fetch a copy of these:

  1) Send me a report if you test a driver and it works.
  2) Send me a report if you test a driver and it doesn't work.
  3) Fetch a copy of the actual release when it is ready.

The drivers are clearly identified as BETA test copies. Please do not
distribute these any more than you have to in order to test them.

The beta test drivers are only available by FTP. Please do not ask me to
mail you a copy -- life is too short to do that kind of stuff. FTP them
from grape.ecs.clarkson.edu [128.153.13.196], *account* "drivers", *password*
"drivers". Do not use anonymous -- it has no access to the directory the
drivers are stored in. There are two files, drivers.arc and driverss.arc.
The first has only the executables, the second has only the sources. The
documentation is the same for both packages.
