Has anybody been successful in running NCSA Telnet (or any TCP/IP program) under Banyan netword software? We're trying to find a similar solution to the Novel-TCP/IP solution which patched Novel to allow it to run under Packet spec driver. Is there a similar driver for Vines? Thanks

Thanks Banyan ships a driver they call the "raw" driver. It will allow both Vines and (I know) FTP to run on the same card. I dumped the raw driver and it has an FTP copyright on it, so I assume it might be (though I don't know) a packet driver. Someone else out there may know (James?). -- John Robert Breeden, netcom!jbreeden@apple.com, apple!netcom!jbreeden, ATTMAIL:!jbreeden ------------------------------------------------------------------- "The nice thing about standards is that you have so many to choose from. Thanks The name of the program that allows this is EBANYAN.EXE. I don't know if it is distributed by Banyan or FTP but it appears to operate like a Packet Driver to Vines adapter (you first load all of Vines, then load ebanyan). At that point FTP V2.03 or 2.04 will run concurrent with Vines (3.01 Patch Level 6). -- John Robert Breeden, netcom!jbreeden@apple.com, apple!netcom!jbreeden, ATTMAIL:!jbreeden ------------------------------------------------------------------- "The nice thing about standards is that you have so many to choose from. We've had a version of PC/TCP that shares the interface with VINES since early 1988. Presently, there are two: Our part PC-215 sends native Ethernet IP packet, and work with any Ethernet VINES driver newer than 2.10. Banyan sells another version, which sends IP packets encapsulated in VINES IPC datagrams, and requires the IP router option on the VINES servers, so they can re-encapsulate the packets in the correct native IP framing when they leave the VINES subnet. This is useful if you have networks which IP doesn't normally use, but it is a bit slower than the native Ethernet version. I don't know of anyone else who has supported either driver-sharing interface. James B. VanBokkelen 26 Princess St., Wakefield, MA 01880 FTP Software Inc. voice: (617) 246-0900 fax: (617) 246-0901

The files we supply for Banyan's DOS TCP/IP on the workstation include IFCUST.SYS, IPCUST.SYS and IBANYAN.EXE. We talk directly to the VINES interface, we didn't write a packet-driver converter...
