[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] ka9q promiscuous packet driver for token-ring ??

josevela@mtecv2.mty.itesm.mx (Jose Angel Vela Avila) (07/03/90)

Does anyone have change the ibmtoken packet driver to work with netwatch ?
I mean to SEE ALL packets ?

If not, can any tell me what do I have to change to it ?

 Thanks.

I doubt that the fake-ethernet TokenRing Packet Driver could be changed
to support promiscuous mode. Promiscuous mode on the IBM Token Ring
cards is not available on normal TR cards, special "Trace and Per-
formance" Adapters that support Promiscuous mode need to be acquired
from IBM. Furthermode the specs on how to put those adapters into
promiscuous mode are not published by IBM. Third party adapters like
those from Proteon and Western Digital perhaps could in principle be
used were it not for the fact that the TR Packet Driver doesn't drive
the hardware directly, it depends on an IBM defined ASA interface.
That interface doesn't account for such a thing as promiscuous mode...
