[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] NCSA LPR, 3c523 Packet Driver

RUBIN@POLYGRAF.BITNET (David Rubin) (07/20/90)

I am sending this to the net since there seem to be some other people having
the same problems.

re: LPR -- the only LPR implementation I have found to work with binary files
is the one written by David Johnson from the University of Mississippi.
It is available from tacky.cs.olemiss.edu. This program seems to have some
minor problems, but works fine with the "-l" option as well as for regular
text files. Thanks to Edward Vielmetti for this info.

re: 3C523 Packet Driver -- It seems that they messed up the driver in the
later revisions. Try using the version 5.1.0 driver, available in the file
pktd5_0.arc on sun.soe.clarkson.edu. Thanks to Russ Nelson for this solution.

Were you only looking at public domain lprs? The lpr in our PC/TCP
works with binary files if used with the "-v" option.
