[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] TCP/IP on DEPCA cards

a0045@rrz.uni-koeln.de (Jochen Roderburg) (09/07/90)

An institute at our university has a local DECNET with a VAX under VMS
and several PC with DEC's DEPCA ethernet adapters, where they run
several DEC protocols. They will soon be connected to our TCP/IP based
LAN and are looking for a way to run TCP/IP software directly on these
PC's, if possible concurrently with the DEC software.

Has anybody an idea for such an arrangement?
More specifically, is there perhaps a packet driver for the DEC
adapter somewhere, or a packet driver which can be used with DEC's DLL
interface, something similar to the NDIS-to-Packet converter from FTP
software? Or any other solutions... ?

FTP Software has the necessary packages.

At least two of the commercial DOS TCP/IP packages can talk to the
DEC DLL interface: PC/TCP and WIN/PC. At least four of the
commercial packages can talk to NDIS (PC/TCP, WIN/PC, BWNFS and
PC-NFS), if DEC's NDIS driver can be obtained (I've seen test
versions). Current versions of NCSA can't use the NDIS adapter.
