Hello, this subject might have come up before (sorry if true) but I was wondering if any attempt has been made to port an NNTP newsreader to ka9q/nos? My current situation is this: I have a UUCP box that can connect to another unix and download many megabytes of usenet down to my unix and I can read news and let expire(8) clear everything out every 7 days or so. Problem is that I have to say I will take this many newsgoups and no more because I will quickly run out of Inodes after comp*, rec*, talk*, clari*, etc is downloaded :) A better idea is to have a localized newsreader that connects to a remote NNTP (somewhere on the internet) and allows me to pick and choose what I want to read and also all the actual storage remains on the internet host. the Internet host BENEFITS from this relationship as well because it doesn't have to BATCH up news (that is already has stored out on disk anyways)for UUCP. This would also need to allow for a localized .newsrc that would be updated by the remote NNTP (via TCP/IP). I know that this exists in the Berkeley environment, my question is has anyone attempted to build a client on ka9q or even just for IBMPC? This would help me a whole lot if such a program exists outthere :) Is there an easily obtainable protocol specification for NNTP somewhere? Thanx for any help! - Jeff jeff@jeffpc.eds.com
