[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] Who supports INT14h interface

bill@polygen.uucp (Bill Poitras) (09/21/90)

What communication packages work with the INT14h interface. I know kermit
does, what other versions do? E-mail or post, doesn't matter.

Not knowing how you intend to use the INT14H interface, I'll assume that
you would like to redirect it over a network. I'll base my comments
on this premise, however, if you simply wish to use INT14H as it was
intended by IBM, then skip to the list below.

The interrupt 14 hex interface is supported by a large number of terminal
emulator and LAN vendors. The interface is described technically in the
IBM technical references for the PC and AT. Having been originally designed
for asynch chips, the INT14H interface is functionally quite limited. As
a result, some LAN vendors have introduced extensions to the interface that
may prevent a terminal emulator unfamiliar with the extensions from using it.
In any case, here are the names of some terminal emulators that know about
INT14H:

Reflections 2, Walker Richer & Quinn, Inc. (206)-324-0350
	Softerm PC, Softronics, (800)-225-8590
SmartTerm 220, Persoft (don't have the number)

Nestor.

These are some terminal emulator products for PC's which I have
tested for INT 14 use over a network. Each of these supports
     VT220, except Kermit.

     Emulators I recommend:

     Name Price Disk Memory
     ZSTEM $150 153 Kb 177 Kb
     SmarTerm $195 306 Kb 274 Kb
     Softerm PC $195 625 Kb 205 Kb
     Reflection $349 1212 Kb 210 Kb
     EM 220 $189 706 Kb 212 Kb
     COTERM 220 $245 242 Kb 188 Kb
     Crosstalk Mk 4 $245 968 Kb 241 Kb
Kermit Free 463 Kb 133 Kb

Other emulators which have INT 14 support:

     Name Price Disk Memory
     Poly-STAR/T $199 688 Kb 391 Kb
     PC-Term $250 246 Kb 130 Kb
Procomm Plus, Net $595 473 Kb 130 Kb

I do not have formal results for Crosstalk for Windows or
Futuresoft's Dynacomm _yet_ (the only two I know of in the
Windows environment), but you could check them out yourself.

I have attached the address and phone numbers for the emulators
I recommend below. If you want more information, such as
version numbers I used, how to configure each, and test results,
