[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] gimme some advice, please

I3160901@DBSTU1.BITNET (Klaus Hahn) (09/29/90)

Ok, i`m brandnew to this area and i know that questions like mine
produce a lot of laughter in the gurus` labs, but i guess i ask
you nevertheless:
I have to plan / install a small LAN (a 80386 communication server
as a gateway to an SNA-IBM host and ca. 20 80386-based MS-DOS work-
stations). For the moment i think that Microsoft`s LAN Manager will
do (or should i prefer some kind of UNIX, although nobody of our guys
wants to work on the UNIX machine directly?) and that we could
connect the machines via ethernet with WD8003E cards. In the near
future, the whole LAN should be connected to a campus-wide ethernet
and so every workstation has to be able to use TCP/IP and NFS to
communicate with the rest of the gang, besides being able to use
the server into the host. My simple question is: anything wrong with
that ? Any hints ? What did i forget ?

Thanx for taking care,
Klaus.
