[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] IEEE TCP-IP for the PC

jbreeden@netcom.UUCP (John Breeden) (10/09/90)

I'm trying to talk to an HP host via tcp from a PC (and run Office Vision?).

Apparently HP talks IEEE TCP-IP instead of DIX, so.....

Is there a PC based TCP-IP that will 1) talk IEEE TCP-IP and 2) Interface to
either a Packet Driver or NDIS driver? Running/access to HP's Office Vision
would be an added plus.

Thanx in advance;

You don't *have* to be talking 'IEEE TCP-IP' to talk with an HP (i
assume MPE) box. As of V-Delta 5 on MPE/V and 2.2 on MPE/XL, Ethernet
encapsulation is available with ARP as well. On XL, you just go to the
NETXPORT.NI.niname.LINK screen and put a Y in the little box. It is
something similiar on V, but I don't recall exactly what. Also, if you
do 'turn-on' Ethernet, and are in a subnetted environment, be sure to
configure a subnet mask. Subnets are available in XL 2.1, and V VD-8
(?).

The last comment heard from HP was that you could now get "standard"
tcp/ip support for all of their hardware...

I have no idea whether this is true.
