[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] TCP/IP with DPMI and RARP Support

kory@avatar.avatar.com (Kory Hamzeh) (10/07/90)

Does anyone know of a TCP/IP product for the IBM PC with the following
two features:

	- Can run in a 386 DOS system in the DOS Protected Mode
	Interface (DPMI).
	- Has a Reverse ARP Demon or has hooks for me to write a
	Reverse ARP demon.

Thanks,

We reverse-engineered and duplicated the Excelan socket library for
use with our Phar-Lap protected mode app (not the DPMI one tho--this
was a couple of years ago). Most of the TCP/IP code runs on the
board, and the DRIVER.EXE TSR seems to work fine, if started up before
the p-mode app is loaded, of course. I'm not at liberty to give the
code away, I'm afraid, but maybe it's helpful to know that someone has
done this.

RARP is supported, but not from within our app.

BTW, I recently approached FTP Software about providing this, and they
said there was no demand. Maybe you should organize a campaign to
convince them otherwise?

My opinions, of course. And don't hold me to them.

A DPMI compliant, Sockets API DLL for MS-Windows 3.0 will be available
from Wollongong in mid-December. Also, Frontier Technologies announced
TCP/IP applications for MS-Windows at Networld, but I don't know when or
if they will release a DPMI API.

Is BOOTP acceptable?
