I'm trying to find out what the problems are in running Lantastic Network Operating System ontop of NETBIOS which is running ontop of TCP/IP. Both Wollongong and FTP Software implement an RFC1001 and RFC1002 complient NETBIOS over TCP/IP. The Lantastic Network is suppose to have a version that is adapter independent which runs over Netbios. Apparently neither Wollongong or FTP Softwares TCP Netbios works with Lantastic. I'm trying to get a better understanding of why this technically doesn't work. Is Lantastic not really NETBIOS complient? What does it mean to really be NETBIOS complient? Could someone give me an explanation as to why this really doesn't work. Also what is wrong with the following picture, I thought that this should represent how every thing should work? ----------------- | Lantastic | ----------------- | Netbios | ----------------- | TCP/IP | ----------------- | Ethernet | ----------------- Any help would be much appreciated? -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seth Olitzky seth@wet ...!sun!hoptoad!wet!seth ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The information I've seen at FTP about this problem indicates that Artisoft wrote LANTastic so that it would specifically check for a Netbios extension proprietary to Artisoft, and refuse to load if it doesn't find it. We could fix this if we spent a while disassembling things, but I'd rather they opened up and removed their check... James B.
