[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] PCNFS problems

was@gdwb.oz.au (Warren Stokes) (10/30/90)

We are running Sun Sparcstations, Sparcservers (SunOS 4.1) with
Compaq PCs with 3C503 running PCNFS 3.0.1a.

While generally running fine, there are a number of outstanding
problems -

1.	When our file server is rebooted after a shutdown or
a crash, out PCs get Error reading drive messages when accessing
network drives. This requires a reboot to sort out.

2.	Occasionally, a PC will attempt to print to a networked
printer (usually from Word but not always) and get Printer not
ready message. Trying the operation again from scratch will be
ok.

3.	Intermittent hangs when exitting XTREE PRO or XTREE PRO
GOLD. It is as though XTREE turns off interrupts or does
something else strange at a very low level and then the 3COM
board or drivers up the chain spit the dummy. The machine then
hangs. Happens on many machines but I have not been able to
correlate it to network activity or anything else.

Also:

What is the significance of /m flag for PCNFS.SYS?

What values of /t and /r are users using for PCNFS.SYS?
I don't want to specify /t=0 for not timeout since I think this
will end up giving a hung machine.

Hope someone can help with some or all of the above.

thanks
