[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] Help With Running NCSA TELNET and Desqview.

mjhx@quads.uchicago.edu (mark joseph herbster) (11/10/90)

I have NCSA23 Telnet and Desqview 386 however I am unable
to run these together. Telnet manages to get to the opening screen
before it totally locks up the machine If anybody has any experience
in making these work two together. I would appreciate a reply by mail
I will post a summary.
			Thanks,

I haven't specifically tried running NCSA 2.3 with Desqview 386, but I
have had success with NCSA 2.2TN (Clarkson) and DV 386 by running the
packet driver that was modified to support Windows 3.0 "386 enhanced
mode". I run the driver before entering Desqview (in AUTOEXEC.BAT),
then I can have *ONE* NCSA session (however I can have that in any
window I choose).

To get the drivers, I quote from Steven Wallace's "NOTE" file:

"Packet drivers, modified to support applications running under
MicroSoft's Windows 3.0 enhanced mode, are available via anonymous
ftp from 129.79.16.96 /pub/network/packets/alpha. The testing has
been moderate and no problems have been reported. These packet
drivers will also work in a non-Windows environment. Please read
the read.me file and report any problems to: Steven Wallace
  wallaces@ucs.indiana.edu"

(Mine are dated 7/18/90. I have had no problems with them.) I hope this
helps you.
