Hi! We have a bunch of PCs which are networked with thin-wire ethernet and would like to be able to connect them to some unix boxen on thick ethernet for telnet, ftp, etc. access. Unfortunately, we have an EXTREMELY limited budget and probably can not afford separate router/bridge type boxes costing upwards of $1000. The ethernet cards (3Coms, if it is important) have a thicknet connector, but the cost of external transceivers for 25+ machines is also prohibitive. We might be able to set up one of the PCs with two ethernet cards if this would be effective, but in that case we would need software. Is there a simpler way of bridging the two networks? Would a dedicated PC work, and is software available? I guess I am just looking for any comments or suggestions which anyone might have. Thanks in advance. -Vince Del Vecchio (vd09@andrew.cmu.edu) Comment: "We" is not CMU, but the high school from which I graduated.
