[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] HELP!!!

rwmira01@ULKYVX.BITNET (NEWS_PERSONALNAME) (12/04/90)

I am having a we bit of difficulty with TCP/IP on our PCs. Here is the setup:

8 Stations on a 1 Megabit StarLAN and 2 Servers. 2 Machines are being used as
test machines for TCP/IP (so this is dos box to dos box -- the servers are not
involved)

CUTCP 2.2-D In use, Version 7 of the Packet Drivers

Both machines have no starlan software in memory. Each machine executes:

AT&T 0x7c 2 0x360 0xd000
SET CONFIGTEL=C:\FTP\CONFIG.TEL

The machine that I am using as the "Server" I then do a TELBIN
The machine that I am using as the "Client" I then do an FTPBIN

The Config.tel file has the following statements:

Server                              Client
myip=128.128.128.1                  myip=128.128.128.0  #How original?  :-)
myname=joe                          myname=rob
netmask=255.255.252.0               netmask=255.255.252.0
#any one up for explaining the meaning of the values?
hardware=packet                     hardware=packet
interrupt=2                         interrupt=2
address=0                           address=0
ioaddr=0                            ioaddr=0
mtu=1024                            mtu=1024
maxseg=1024                         maxseg=1024
rwin=2048                           rwin=2048

The Password information is installed and is correct. When I:

FTPBIN 128.128.128.1

It comes back and asks for a user name, I enter: rob
It asks for the password and I enter my password. Everything is cool at this
moment. I can CD and PWD to my hearts content. If I try to do a GET or a DIR
I get a:

150 Opening Connection (I think)

but nothing happens. On the Server machine, I get a message:
   Not allowed to connect to broadcast address

and so on.

Can anyone suggest things to try here. Obviouslly the machines are
communicating since I can login, pwd, and cd. But when the volume of data is
large, it gives that message and stops cold turkey. I can CTRL-BREAK and ESC
from the situation.

Also if anyone can offer a simple tutorial on working with the config.tel file,
I would appreciate it.

Our evenutal goal is to:
  use TCP/IP to connect to a VAX, IBM 3090, Unix File Server, Internet
  from both stand alone workstations (no StarLAN Software) and in conjuntion
  with StarGROUP in a simultanious fashion. (I am collecting the things I need
  for this, but if I cant get the simple case working....)

Thanks in advance
