We are using the latest version of CUTCP (TC version) with the Clarkson packet drivers for the AT&T StarLAN NAU. Everything works fine, until we attempt to transfer files that are larger than 65536 bytes. Then, only the first 65536 bytes of the file transfer and FTP hangs. We are invoking FTP using the <alt>T command. We have tried with various files and from various hosts (an IBM 3090 and an AT&T 3B2). BTW we are using version 7 of the packet drivers. Any suggestions as to what may be the problem?

I suggest that you examine your MTU. At least one older version of the NI5210 packet driver could not accept a packet larger than 1024 bytes. When the later versions of CUTCP came along, we internally supported a 1500 byte MTU, which would result in a crashed PC if the broken packet driver was used. I suggest trying an MTU of 512 and seeing how that effects things. | Brad Clements bkc@omnigate.clarkson.edu bkc@clutx.bitnet | Sr. Network Engineer Clarkson University (315)268-2292

The difference is that I use an ethernet instead of a token ring to carry Novell. The problem occurs, however, only with the new (beta) versions of CUTCP. The old 2.2TN version works without problems. It also seems to be host dependent. Ftping to an IBM VM system running Spartacus KNET works ok, ftping to a PCS Cadmus host claiming to run UNIX BSD 4.3 crashes on large files (more than ca. 500k) when transferring from the PC to the host. The other direction seems to be ok. Starting a packet driver trace in the workstation PC results an a hanging workstation instead of a hanging router and I can't get the trace out of the machine. I've sent two requests to the archive server at Clarkson to get the latest CUTCP package but both times only got 4 or 5 parts of the 11 part package. Its possible pieces are getting dumped somewhere along the route from Clarkson to me. Has anyone else requested the package recently and not had any problems? Does anyone know if theres any problem with the server? Michael J.
