Infoworld reports that Western Digital has shipped as many as 100 if
its 8-bit Ethernet adapters with duplicate network addresses,
officials confirmed.
If running on the same network, the Western Digital EtherCard Plus
boards that received identical addresses will confuse the network
operating system, because all Ethernet cards are supposed to have a
unique address for identification.
Users who discover boards with duplicate addresses will receive a
replacement EtherCard Plus at no charge, according to company
officials in Irvine, Calif.

Did Western Digital say what addresses were duplicated? That would make it easier for us to try and watch for the problem. Doug Nelson Michigan State University

I'm amazed to hear of this problem this late; we did have problems
with duplicate addressed WD boards and we did, as a matter of fact,
receive replacement boards out of Ireland.
The duplicate addresses at our site all had addresses in the
range 0000c0xx2x1c and we asked Western Digital to confirm this and
better yet to narrow it down; we received no confirmation whatsoever
about this hunch, but as you are asking for a range, we think it is
in the mentioned one.
One thing left to say: as many as 100 ethernet boards with duplicate
addresses? How come we got about 20 in a shipment of about 250 boards?
Maybe one of you can get more out of WD than we did. Success to you all.
