[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] Problem using PCNFS

klamer@mi.eltn.utwente.nl (Klamer Schutte -- Universiteit Twente) (01/08/91)

I am having a problem when using PC NFS. I try to make this work on a PC
(AT-compatible) on a network with a lot of other machines. (all kinds:
unix machines, vms, pc's, running tcp/ip and decnet).

The problem i have is that sometimes the PC can reach other machines, but
sometimes he can't. When monitoring the ethernet it is shown that the
PC sends out an arp package to the destination machine (sun sparc running
SunOs 4.1); this machine sends an arp back; but the PC ignores this and
tries again. This process continues until a timeout follows.
At the same time many other machines send an arp to the PC. He (she?)
answers none of these requests.

Weird is that it sometimes does work (???). (Without reconfiguration)

The same hardware, software and configuration works on a local (less used)
network.
I am using sun's PC NFS, ms-dos 3.30 and a 3com 3c503 ethernet card.

Anybody knows what is going wrong?

Please answer by mail, since i don't read this group (often).
With enough (and general) answers i will summarize in this group.

Thanks in advance,

Klamer
