[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] win3,tcp-ip and novell: can it be done

edmbv@fiol.UiB.NO (Bjorn Asle Valde) (01/10/91)

Can anyone with net.smart.ideas recomend a sollution for
having novell, windows-3, preferably in enhanced mode, and
tcp-ip programs (preferably ftp's) running on the same pc?
I've been using packet-drivers, BYU IPX over pkt and ftp's
generic kernel to do this up to this time, but in commes
windows3 and it seems to be a new game (at least for me).
Please respond to me directly.

Thanks a lot, -bav

Were using packet drivers Novell and the WINQVTNET package

We run windows 3.0 in enhanced mode,
Have NOVELL installed as network in windows
Can put VT220 telnet sesions to our UNIX machines
Can have FTP sessions to our UNIX machines

The secret seems to be that the packet driver runs in real mode;
Windows 3.0 runs in virtual 8086 mode ;
So: the two can't communicate together

The WINQVTNET software (shareware) includes a 16k PKTINT.COM
it's an interface to let the packetdriver communicate with windows

Conclusion: Yes it is possible right now, were running it
