Hi. I've some problems using Western Digitals 16-bit cards with Packet Drivers. In first shipment we got EtherCard PLUS 16 (WD8013EBT) cards those worked fine. We ordered some 10 more, but 8 of them doesn't work with WD8003E ver. 7 drivers. Not working means when i install them in the same machine with same configuration as previously, they send packets to the net (i see them with netwatch), but they don't seem to receive any packets from net (those i see too). The new and old one look the same, it seems to me that they both are the same revision. I also tryed them with a Netbios-application (Lantastic) and they didn't work. Also, they didn't work in a '386 machine running Interactive's UNIX. The machines i've tryed are both '286 and '386. Those cards seem to be OK (in the hardware), WD's testprograms run succesfully, one sending (and receiving) and another echoing 1000 packets in less than 2 seconds. Western Digitals representative here had two solutions. 1. WD has a packet driver, and the newest one (v.2.01) works also standalone (=doesn't need Novels IPX drivers loaded), wich is what i need. It works, but it doesn't solve my problems with other software like netbios-applications (WD's netbios uses too much memory) and Unix. 2. They give me a EtherCard PLUS Elite16 (WD8013EP), wich works with all my programs. But how about the next shipment? *** Have someone else had problems like this? Western Digitals representative told me, that WD is going to chance National's NS32490 / DP 8390 chip they used against WD's own WD83C690 Network Interface Controller-chip in all their ethernet-cards, 8- and 16-bit. And i should use only new version of drivers, those contain modifications for WD's own chip. *** Does this mean, that i run in broblems with all my cards? ----- Jens Mach Internet: mach@kontu.utu.fi mach@utu.fi mach@polaris.utu.fi Bitnet: mach@firien Computing Centre, University of Turku Turun Yliopiston laskentakeskus Henrikinkatu 2 Henrikinkatu 2 SF-20500 Turku, Finland 20500 Turku Phone : +358-21-633 5919 Fax : +358-21-633 6560
