[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] problem with NCSA telnet and NeXT with release 2.0

PVJQC@CUNYVM.BITNET (01/24/91)

I recently upgraded two NeXTs with release 2.0. In all we have three NeXTs
on Netinfo network and the third one is still running 1.0.
I noticed that I could not use NCSA Telnet (ver. 2.2D) running on PS/2 to
connect to these two NeXTs with 2.0. It works fine with the NeXT running
1.0.
NCSA ftp seems to be working fine and so does rlogin and telnet from all the
three NeXTs.
The symptoms are, NCSA telnet does not return login prompt. Alt-Q returns
YES response, Alt-M returns some WILLS and WONTS.

Any clues? Any response will be appreciated.

Thank you.

I am not sure what the problem is, but we have it also... not with NCSA
telnet, but with a locally modified version of telnet which we use on
most of our Unix machines. The vendor supplied telnets seem to work. I
have tried both replacing telnetd on the NeXT with the latest version
from Berkeley (which did not work) and using the latest version of
Berkeley's telnet instead of the locally modified one on the other
machine (which did work, but didn't explain the problem). If you find
out what the problem is or a work-around, I would like to know about it
too.
