I have a network with some PC-NFS users connected to various Unix servers (compaqs with SCO, SUN, and HP). The serial lines with modems belong to our big HP 9000/835 machine due to the fact that this computer have many ports. My users need to connect themselves to a data bank wich uses Prime machines, in order to retrieve data. Actually, the task is accomplished using telnet to connect to the HP server then cu to contact the Prime. Helas the Prime machine doesn't support vt100 and assume you have either a Prime ascii terminal or a televideo 925. This isn't that serious because the application programs on the Prime don't use cursor motion. The problem becomes more serious when my users try to print out the result of the Prime's queries. The big toy (It's a mainframe ;-) sends an escape sequence which diverts the output of the televideo family terminals to the eventually present auxiliary printer. This feature is emulated by some programs currently available under MS-Dos, but to use them instead of telnet-cu I need to give a modem (and a line) to each user, which would make the network somewhat useless. So the question is: can I cheat an MS-DOS program, giving him an ethernet connection with a pty on the server instead of a COM port? If not, are there any smarter programs I can buy here in Europe to replace telnet? Thanks in advance. luke. - -- _ _ __ Via Aleardo Aleardi, 12 - 20154 Milano (Italy) | | | _ _| (__ PHONE : +39 2 3315328 FAX: +39 2 3315778 | | |(_)(_||_|___) Srl E-MAIL: luke@modus.sublink.ORG ______________________________ Software & Services for Advertising & Marketing
