[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] IPX over NDIS

KELLY@DCSPROD.BYU.EDU (Kelly McDonald) (01/10/91)

Yesterday, I ran across someone that has developed an IPX shell driver
that runs over an NDIS driver. I don't know any details as to its price
or distribution, but I recall that several on this list were asking about
such a beast over the past few months.

Person's name is:

David Poole
Spry Inc.

Another possibility is 3Com. The 'Connectivity for NetWare' package has now
been shipping for some time, and runs over NDIS (it was developed under a
cooperation agreement).

For those with an eye to the (near) future, under the new licensing deal
with Microsoft (!?**@!) this product will ship as part of the core LM 2.0
system later this year.

I have just started to investigate the use of NDIS drivers and have two
questions that may already have been addressed in this forum prior to
my interest in NDIS.

Are there PD NDIS drivers available with or without source?

Does anyone know of a IPX over NDIS patch or product?

Thanks in advance!

No PD version (that work) but a number of commercial Netware NDIS shells:

1. Prolinc from Hughes Lan Systems (Mountain View, Calif).

2. Spry Inc, (Seattle Wash)

3. WRQ (Seattle Wash)

4. Cogent (Friday Harbor, Wash.)

I don't know of any NDIS drivers that are explicitly public domain, but
I think most vendors distribute them pretty freely; after all, they only
work with the vendor's boards. I don't know of any that are available in
source form.

3Com do a product 'Connection for NetWare' which provides IPX under the Lan
Manager DPA facility, running over the NDIS driver. Additionally, they are
bundling with their latest version of TCP/IP, again implemented under DPA.
