[comp.protocols.tcp-ip.ibmpc] PC-based NFS producst and Kerberos'd servers

smyser@athena.mit.edu (Robert Smyser) (03/08/91)

At MIT we have a large number of NFS file servers that have the kerberos security stuff in between them and clients. I have tried using IDRIVE from FTP,Inc. to attach to these servers without success. Sun's PC-NFS does work, but its configuration (especially *re*configuration) processes are so unlike FTP's or berkeley unix's that it's excruciating to use. Are there other NFS products that are known to work with kerberos'd servers? (For that matter, has FTP, Inc. gotten its stuff to work with kerberos y

et?)

We intend to Kerberize Interdrive, but there are three main obstacles:
First, should we do V4 or V5 Kerberos? Second, the DoD and the DoC
are reluctant to let anyone export it (30% of our sales are overseas).
Third, you can't Kerberize a Unix NFS server without either a Unix
source license or vendor support. Is vendor support anywhere near?
